Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund

The Jewish Federations of North America has opened the JFNA Hurricane Relief Fund to contribute to recovery and rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.  Donors are urged to contribute to their local Federation or through the online donation form athttp://JFeds.org/SandyRelief. Or, text RELIEF to 51818 on a mobile device to pledge a donation. Donors may also send checks to our national mailbox at The Jewish Federations of North America, Wall Street Station, PO Box 148, New York, NY 10268. Please indicate "JFNA Hurricane Relief Fund" on all checks or in the designation box online.

Hurricane Sandy, a storm of unprecedented magnitude, struck the Eastern portion of the United States. Seeing the response of communities across the region to the devastating storm, we are awed by the strength of the American people.  The Jewish community and the Federation Movement send our support and prayers to those affected by the hurricane, and we will stand beside them during the recovery and rebuilding.

Before the storm hit, JFNA Emergency Committee staff communicated with potentially impacted Federations and communities.  We also coordinated with our Jewish Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (JVOAD) partners.  Our team is also communicating with affected Federations to assess damage and communal needs, as well as participating in National VOAD meetings, which are held in conjunction with FEMA and emergency response personnel from across the region.

Thank you for joining us in sending prayers, resources, and good wishes to all those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

We will continue to update this Hurricaine Sandy Relief page and provide reports as necessary.

Letter From The President

We Promise...

Those of you who know me even slightly are aware of my passion for dogs. While I love all dogs, I am particularly devoted to (wild about) my own, William, our 10-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and Nellie, our two-year-old West Highland White Terrier. While Will has been the companion of kings, Nellie is the Cesar commercial dog; the adorable little white dog who makes all sorts of promises. She promises to: “be there when you wake,” “to always be your co-pilot,” “to take on the world with you.” Well, my opinion is that dogs are heaven’s perfect creatures; they keep their promises, they take on the world with you, every hour of every day. They deliver. And I have learned from the loyalty and constancy of my beloved dogs that there is nothing more important than keeping a promise.
When my time as president of the Federation is ended, I pray that I will leave a legacy of trust in our word and our work, along with an understanding that the Federation keeps its promises; that we deliver. The first task that the Visioning Committee accomplished, after many weeks of work, was the creation of a new mission statement (WHAT we do) and a clear declaration of our priorities and values (WHY we do what we do).
