All school closing decisions will be made at the earliest possible time.
Please understand that although the weather conditions may appear fine in your neighborhood, we must take into account the conditions for all our families both in the Des Moines Metro Area and the surrounding communities.
1. We will contact KCCI (Channel 8) with the information. **Please note that that school is often listed as Des Moines (or DM) Jewish Federation Community School so it often appears under the “D” listings rather than the “J” listings.
2. The closing information will be posted on the Jewish Federation’s website, www.jewishdesmoines.org, on the “Jewish Federation Community School” page.
3. An email notice will be sent to all addresses that were listed on the student registrations from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . If you have updated your email account in recent months, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your newest address to ensure that you will be contacted.
4. We will not be calling families. If your family does nothave home access to email, please let our office know ASAP so that we can make arrangements to contact you should a school closing be necessary.
5. If Des Moines and/or West Des Moines school districts close due to weather conditions on Wednesdays, we will follow suit.
We are excited to begin our 2011-12 or 5771-72 school year. JFCS is about making friends and making memories, learning about our culture and heritage, and learning about what makes us special.
The Jewish Federation Community School is a supplementary Jewish School for students PreK-12th grade. Our purpose is to help each student in LEARNING and DOING as a Jew.
LEARNING includes the study of prayer, theology, Torah, Hebrew, holidays, Jewish thought, history, Jewish values and contemporary issues facing the Jewish community and our community at large.
DOING includes participation in worship, holiday celebrations, and a variety of other programs and events. We also emphasize the importance of life cycle events within our tradition.
Each student at JFCS is offered the opportunity to grow as a Jew. Studies have revealed that the more quality Jewish education one receives, the better able the individual is to make critical Jewish life decisions and the better chance there is that the person will remain an active member of the Jewish community. Involvement helps foster a feeling of pride in being Jewish. We hope to set up a pattern of LEARNING and DOING that will continue throughout the life of the student.
We don't live our lives in discrete segments.
We don't learn that way either.
Life has a habit of overlapping and so does Jewish learning.
Normal office hours for JFCS are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8a.m.--5p.m. and on Wednesday and Friday 8a.m.--3p.m. 515-987-0899
