The Iowa Jewish Historical Society (IJHS) is an educational institution. Our mission is to inspire people from every background to connect with and preserve Iowa’s Jewish history and culture.
We accomplish this mission by:
Collecting and preserving historical artifacts and archival materials that tell the story of Iowa’s Jewish heritage
Providing high-quality, educational, and enjoyable exhibits and programs for school students and the general public
Placing the history of the Jewish people of Iowa into a regional, national, and international context

For more than 20 years, the IJHS has made a significant effort to preserve and promote Iowa’s Jewish history through our collection, exhibits, events and even a cookbook!
Our mission wouldn’t be possible without the support of historical preservation organizations and foundations. Learn more about awards and grants that elevate our work.
