Outreach

Jewish Family Services (JFS) and the Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines partner with agencies around Central Iowa to make an impact in the community as a whole. From one-time events to ongoing collaborations, JFS is involved in a wide range of efforts to support our Jewish and non-Jewish neighbors.

Types of Outreach Activities

In addition to our focus on hunger issues, Jewish Family Services works with local senior advocacy and early childhood development groups through the United Way. We also look for small opportunities to make a difference, such as creating volunteer opportunities for employees of the Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines. Our staff enjoys giving back to the community and have previously volunteered to help pack hundreds of weekend food bags for the local Boys and Girls Club.

Des Moines Area Religious Council

Featured Partner: Des Moines Area Religious Council

The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) operates a food pantry network that distributes emergency food assistance across our region. Jewish Family Services partnered with DMARC to promote literacy to area families by providing a tote bag with a free book each time a family visited a food pantry over the course of three months. We’re grateful to our Gan Shalom Preschool families and the PJ Library for donating books to this worthy cause!
